The Sydney Morning Herald has stressed in its recent editorial that Public confidence in an important community safety policy is in jeopardy.
The Star casino's controversial exemption from alcohol lockout laws must surely be revisited now that a government authority has uncovered signs of significant under-reporting of violence in the Pyrmont area.
Any decision rests on one section of the Callinan review into the anti-violence measures. Section 5:10 suggests that violence around the casino at "anywhere near the levels" endured in the CBD and Kings Cross before the laws began would cast doubt on the whole policy.
