South Korea's president Moon Jae-in ordered defence department to launch a special probe into a military crackdown against the 1980 pro-democracy protests in Gwangju.
The new probe will specifically to verify if the then military junta considered a possible air strike to their citizens in the South-western city in Korea.
The uprising often called 5.18 democratic movements.
