The classic with English subtitles, as the tale of intertwining teenage unfolds to the tune of betrayal, ambition, and love and revenge is both dramatic and hilarious.
The Koreas oldest surviving silent film has been re-mastered, and presented in the style of the silent era - with live musical accompaniment, singers and a Movie Talker (Byeonsa), who not only narrates but gives voice to the characters (and sometimes even sound effects!).
The masterwork by director Ahn Jong-hwa is a love story which reveals the harsh times faced by young men and women during colonial Korea in the 1930s.
Together with remastering the print, the film has been re-scripted with a live performance directed by award-winning Korean director and APSA Academy member Kim Tae-yong (Memento Mori).
The result is a mesmerising cross-media film/performance which presents the film just as Korean audiences would have exerienced it when first premiered in 1934.
