Musical aspirations for Dokdo from K-classic 'La Mer et L'Île' resonate with Sydney

On the occasion of the annual Dokdo Day, 'La Mer et L'Île (Sea and Island)' conveys the beauty of Dokdo by musical storytelling that harmonizes Korean traditional musical instruments with Western musical instruments.

‘La Mer’ meaning ‘the sea’, refers to the East Sea, while ‘L'Île’ meaning ‘the island’ refers to Dokdo Island.

Together with the musicians,artists,writers and dancers registered with the organization,  they are bringing people′s attention to the issues related to the naming of the East Sea and Korea′s sovereignty over Dokdo.

Ensemble La Mer et L'Île, since its inception 1n 2013, has performed classical, romantic, and contemporary repertoires in and out of South Korea. In 2016 -17, the Ensemble performed chamber music at the prestigious concert halls in Singapore, Sydney, Hong Kong, Prague, the Czech Republic, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. In 2018, it embarks on its concert tour to Paris, Rotterdam and again to Sydney, Australia.

Composed of classical musicians with musicians with western instruments and also musicians with traditional Korean instruments such as Gayageum, Haegeum, and Saenghwang, the members of the Ensemble are much sought-after musicians in North America and Europe. They perform together in perfect harmony of the western and Korean instruments for the musical storytelling.
