Leukaemia and lymphoma patients in Australia could soon have access to a treatment that uses genetically modified cells to fight cancer.


Researchers at Sydney's Westmead Hospital will soon begin trialling a new cancer therapy.

Known as CARTELL, it's aimed at treating lymphoma and leukaemia patients who've exhausted all other options.

The treatment involves collecting a type of immune cell, known as T-cells, and genetically engineering them to produce receptors that fight cancer cells.
