Migrant expert in Korean community, Dong Chul Jeong said “Accountant, mechanic, CEO, tiler, welder and chef are occupations possibly having a pathway to permanent residency under the new Temporary Skill Shortage visa program.

There are several changes expected to happen with Australian visas on March 2018. As it was announced last year, Temporary Work Skilled(457) visa is abolished and it is going to be replaced by Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS).

The TSS visa is divided in two; the short-term stream, allowing stays of up to two years (with the option to renew once), and the medium-term stream allowing stays of up to four years.

The medium-term stream has a pathway to permanent residency, while the short-term stream doesn’t.

Migrant expert Dong Chul Jeong is a partner at Sojong Lawyers.

“Some accessible occupations in the medium-term stream for Korean nationals to apply for would be accountant, mechanic, CEO, tiler, welder and chef.” Mr Jung said.

The Korean-born lawyer also mentioned that as the Skilled Occupations List is adjusting every six months, it is important that the occupation still remains when at the moment when you apply for the permanent.
