Australia's two malur rugby leagues, AFL and NRL, ramp up their efforts on the resumption of the interrupted season due to the COVID-19 at the end of May.

In rugby league, health officials have given the NRL permission to restart this year' season on May 28th.

Teams will be able to start training again from May 4th.

The NRL has to finalise a set of health and biosecurity protocols to ensure player and staff safety.

Australian Rugby League Commissioner Wayne Pearce says resuming the competition will get people back to work.

Meanwhile, Western Australia's Premier Mark McGowan says he's had talks with the AFL about having Perth used as a hub to allow the season to resume.

The AFL is considering a series of hubs where the competition could resume under a round robin format.

Premier McGowan says it would be great if Perth could play a part subject to the health advice.
