NSW residents and businesses have been warned to take precautions to avoid property damage ahead of further predicted rainfal, while a cyclone churning out hefty swells along Australia’s east coast is expected to approach Queensland before weakening as it moves south.
Cyclone Uesi is about 1400km off Australian shores near New Caledonia and tracking south-southwest as a category three system, the Bureau of Meteorology says.

Energy provider Ausgrid is calling on the Australian army to help clear storm debris in New South Wales.
It comes as the state is experiencing heavy storms and flooding.
Over 30 000 homes and businesses across Sydney and the Central Coast may also remain without power into the weekend with rain forecast to compound damaged caused by thunderstorms.
The State Emergency Service is warning residents and businesses to take precautions to avoid property damage, while those already prepared for flooding should leave sandbags and preventative measures in place.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting more heavy rainfall with between six to 25 millimeters of rain is expected to hit Sydney today.
