More than 1300 schools have applied for air conditioning under the Cooler Classrooms program which commenced last year as an initiative by the NSW government. However only 27 schools have had air conditioning facilities installed in their classrooms.

Criticism has been made about the slow process, as the rate is less than 2 per cent while the average annual temperature across Sydney has continuously risen.

According to research, each extra degree of heat reduces students’ learning capacity by two per cent.

Experts are concerned about the inequality among public schools between the air conditioned buildings and the facilities with no proper cooling systems in place.

SBS Korean's weekly program 'Education Anatomy' looks into the issue.
