As a Korean expatriate If you want to vote in the 19th presidential elections, you need to apply for overseas voter registration by 30 March, 2017.


As a result of ex-president Park Geun-hyes corruption scandal that has engulfed the country, lots of foreign media have paid intensive attention to the Koreas recent political movement. Many Koreans residing overseas also have watched the situation in home country closely and now they have shown their interests to be part of the next election for the new president which will be held on 9 May, 2017.

There will be four polling stations operating in Australia; Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra during this election period. Korean nationals having intention to vote in the 19th Presidential elections are required to apply overseas voter registration by 30 March, 2017.

Consul Lee, Kanguk of the Consulate General of Republic Korea in Sydney is in charge of overseas voter registration. Consul Lee said anyone who has a valid Korean passport can be registered either an overseas voter or an overseas absentee.

Even if you are overseas, voting is your precious right. If you want to vote in the coming election, you should register to vote online () by 30 March 2017, he said.
