Governments across Australia have been urged to agree to a uniform crackdown on drivers using mobile phones.


In Victoria, infringement notices jumped by 13 per cent last year.

Hi-tech red light-style cameras that can photograph texting drivers from above are now being trialed.

But even with the range of new offence detection technologies available, there’s a hitch for police in Victoria.

And they want greater enforcement powers like those recently introduced in New South Wales.
