Permanent residency was issued to a Melbourne family faced deportation to South Korea after a migration-agency scam at the last minute.

You may remember the Lee family, who lost $100,000 in a migration scam and have lived in Melbourne for nine years with their three sons. The SBS Korean program reported about the Lee familys desperate situation last month that they were faced deportation to South Korea.

Their future seemed grim when Immigration Minister Peter Dutton refused to intervene in the case of the Lees, despite more than 7,000 signing a petition to stop them being thrown out of the country on 22 July, 2017.

However, the family was told that their case reconsidered by Assistant Immigration Minister Alex Hawke after he met Bruce federal Labor MP Julian Hill yesterday.

David Lee and his wife Mikyeong Jeon have passed good news today to the SBS Korean program that they have received an official decision letter from the department of immigration and border protection, and they are now on a permanent resident visa.

I still cannot believe what happened to us today. Thanks for all incredible support and I promise that I will not look away from those who in need. We will do only right things because we want to be a good role model for our sons. Ms Jeon said.

The SBS Korean program has more.
