The SMH hopes that togetherness between the two Koreas leads to wider co-operation between their homelands, and to the peace that all seek.

The SMH argues that the North Korean regime has recognised the propaganda value of taking part in the Pyeongchang Olympics.

The paper says North Korea’s decision to field a joint women's ice hockey team at the Pyeongchang Olympics may seem slight progress in international relations, but from such small beginnings great things can grow. And it hopes that the venture leads to wider co-operation between their homelands, and to the peace that all seek.

However, the Australian argues that it would be naive to hope that two weeks of Winter Games in PyeongChang will have any real impact in persuading Kim Jong-un to scale back his nuclear arms program.

The AFR gives more weight to the argument, saying that foreign government officials and political analysts are sceptical about what this latest display of togetherness can actually achieve.
