President Moon Jae-in's approval rating continued to drop last week, falling to the second lowest level since his inauguration, a poll showed Monday.

In a survey conducted by Realmeter, Moon's approval rating came to 61.1 percent, down 1.8 percentage points from a week earlier. The weekly survey was conducted Monday through Friday on 2,504 adults throughout the nation.

The latest reading marks the second lowest since Moon took office in May 2017. It also marks the sixth consecutive week of decline.

Moon's approval rating shot up to record high levels after his two historic summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, held April 27 and May 26. It began to dwindle, at a lukewarm rate at first but at a faster rate after the government decided to posthumously confer the country's highest medal of honor on the late former Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil, who is accused of collaborating with the military dictatorship of the late former President Park Chung-hee.
