1,180 scholarships are now available for international and domestic students to study in Australia’s regions.
The Destination Australia Program was announced as part of the Planning for Australia’s Future Population on 20 March 2019.
On 1 November, Dan Tehan, Minister for Education, officially announced the 35 higher education and vocational education providers who will offer these scholarships from 2020 at over 84 locations.
The $93.7 million Destination Australia program in 4 years will award to the Australian tertiary education provider $15,000 in scholarship funding per student, per year, and $1,500 in promotional and administration assistance per year, per scholarship awarded.
Grants available in this grant opportunity are for scholarships commencing from Semester 1, January 2020 onwards.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said international and domestic students could apply for one of 1,180 scholarships through the Destination Australia program.
"International education made a $35 billion contribution to the economy last year and we want regional communities to share the benefits," Mr Tehan said.
"Increasing student numbers at regional education providers will give local economies a kickstart and also help share the social, economic and cultural benefits of higher education.” He said.
"Of the 690,000 international students in Australia, just three per cent were enrolled in regional Australia last year and our Government’s $93.7 million Destination Australia program will help to change that."
