As a bill decriminalised sex work has passed through the South Australia state Legislative Council, sex works soon would have the same rights and responsibilities as other workers.

South Australia is considering following the New South Wales model and decriminalising the industry.

That means prostitution would be recognised as a legitimate business.

Sex work remains criminalised in South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.

It is legalised or licensed in Victoria, Queensland, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory.

New South Wales is the only state in Australia to have completely decriminalised sex work.

But in South Australia that could soon change, with state relevant bill following New South Wales' model and decriminalising the industry has passed through the state's Legislative Council on July 5.
