The Australia-Korea Business Council (AKBC) announced the appointment of the Simon Crean as its new Chairman.
Simon Crean spent 23 years as the Member for Hotham in the Australian Parliament, serving as Opposition and Labor Party Leader, overseeing significant ministerial portfolios, including Science and Technology, Primary Industries and Energy, Employment, Education and Training, Trade, Social Inclusion, Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government and Arts.
He first visited Korea during his term as President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions in 1989 and subsequently as Minister for Science and Technology in 1991 and Minister for Trade in 2009.
Simon Crean said he was honoured to be appointed Chairman and looked forward to working with the Executive Committee and membership.
“I look forward to stewarding the AKBC and making the most of the burgeoning opportunities to strengthen Australia’s relationship with Korea and bring our two business communities closer together.” Simon Crean said.
AKBC Executive Director Liz Griffin said she was delighted to welcome Simon to the role.
“Simon brings more than 40 years’ experience spanning government, industrial relations, international and domestic trade, and development. His exemplary career and outstanding network of relationships with industry, government and community stakeholders will add enormous value to the AKBC and its members.” Liz Griffin said.
On November 11-13, AKBC will host the 40th annual AKBC-KABC Joint Meeting in Sydney and the Korean delegation will be headed by the CEO/Chair of POSCO.
