South Korea and Japan have reached an agreement aimed at resolving their dispute over Tokyo's wartime forced prostitution policy.
An apology from Japan's prime minister and a pledge of more than $US8 million ($A11 million) has sealed a breakthrough deal in a decades-long impasse with South Korea over Korean women forced into Japanese military-run brothels during World War II.
