South Korean unis ‘most innovative’: Reuters ranking

South Korea dominate a new ranking of Reuters Asias 75 most innovative universities, by taking four of the top five places.


KAIST claimed top spot followed by Seoul National University. While Japans Tokyo University ranked third, Korean universities, POSTECH and Seongyunguan University grabbed the fourth and the fifth spot.

According to the Australian, overall South Korea took 22 spots of the overall 75 and mainland China claimed 21 spots, followed by Japan (19), Australia (five), Hong Kong (four), Singapore (two), and New Zealand and India (one each).

Best-placed Australian university Monash (28th) was followed by Sydney (31st), Queensland (41st), Melbourne (46th) and NSW (50th).

The ranking, compiled by news giant Reuters and its former analytics arm Clarivate, judges universities on the citations their research and patents attract, and the patents they submit for their home grown innovations.
