South Korean soccer authorities have indefinitely postponed the start of the 2020 domestic season.

The K League made the announcement after an emergency meeting in Seoul on Monday as the country grapples with the viral outbreak that began in China and has infected more than 79,000 people globally.

“The K-League has decided to temporarily postpone the start of the 2020 K-League season until the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak eases,” it said in a statement.

This year’s edition of the 12-team competition, including current champions Jeonbuk Motors, had been due to kick off this weekend.
