The Inner West Courier reports that Strathfield Council backs down on Australian Korean Memorial Garden and Culture Centre plans at Bressington Park in Homebush.

The Inner West courier reported that controversial plans to build Australian Korean Memorial Garden and Cultural Centre at Bressington Park in Homebush have been withdrawn.

Mayor Andrew Soulos and two Labor councillors voted to withdraw the councils development application to build so-called Korean garden and restore the area to its original state. Although three other councillors including Korean-Australian Cr Sang Ok voted against the motion, it was not enough to stop the withdrawal because Mayor Soulos has the casting vote.

Cr Soulos said the council had received more than 300 submissions to squash the development application of the project.

There has been a strong backlash in the local community since the council announced the location of the Korean garden in the Bressington Park had been shifted from unused hill to sport fields.
