Strathfield to ban smoking in every public pace

Sydney's Korean town Strathfield council area becomes the first Australia CBD to go entirely smoke-free.


The Strathfield Council this week unanimously passed a motion to ban smoking in every public place, and the ban came into effect immediately.

Therefore, it is outlaw lightning up in all public area in Strathfield including the favourite gathering place Strathfield Square, Albert Rd, Redmyre Rd and Raw Square.

Rangers will soon be on patrol in the area, but as the council takes an educational approach, they go around and have a chat with people.

It is believed that after that, the council will start to issue infringements at about $110.

Strathfield Mayor Gulian Vaccari who works as a pharmacist said to the Inner West Courier the move wasn’t about punishing smokers but improving the amenity of the area.
