A western Sydney cleric has promised to continue speaking out against the self-proclaimed Islamic State despite the group calling for his murder in a newly released video.

Sheikh Shady Alsuleiman is one of three Australian Muslim figures named by IS because, it says, they discourage violence and encourage youths to follow local laws.

But Sheikh Shady tells SBS he is unconcerned by the threats and will continue on his mission to teach and practise what he calls true Islam.
