Sydney has woken up to a thick blanket of smoke covering the city as temperatures are set to soar.


Sydney Harbour ferries and sporting events have been cancelled as the air quality in the city reaches 11 times the level deemed hazardous. 

The city and surrounding suburbs are shrouded in thick smoke haze from the bushfires pushing the air quality rating beyond 2200 in Sydney's east and north-west.
