Big W has promised to remove t-shirts featuring images of the former imperial flag of the rising sun from sale in all stores across Australia after receiving complaints from Jay Yang.
Mr Yang made a formal complaint to a customer service centre in a Big W store in Sydney when he saw the t-shorts in the store, which gave him a very unpleasant feeling.
The rising sun flag is considered as a symbol of Imperial Japan and many people from Asian countries liken the flag to Nazi symbols – Hakenkreuz.
