The AGE argues that giving good teachers the time and space to engage with individual students is the surest way forward.

The AGE indicates that there is a clear correlation between economic advantage and educational outcome.

According to the OECD's Program for International Student Assessment(PISA), the most disadvantaged students in Australia are lagging three years behind their better-off peers. Moreover, it found: "Regardless of their own socioeconomic background, students enrolled in a school with a high average socio-economic background tended to perform at a higher level than students enrolled in a school with a low average socio-economic background."

The paper suggests that we should invest the funds available in people, arguing that teachers working in countries with the best educational systems are paid more than those in Australia.

It also emphasizes that giving good teachers the time and space to work with students is the surest way forward, citing the OECD's top education expert, Andreas Schleichers comments that teachers in successful education systems have more time to engage with individual students.
