Courier Mail columnist Kylie Lang argues that Corby is neither royalty nor rock star but a convicted felon, yet she receives the star treatment. We should not elevate her to the undeserving pedestal of an A-list celebrity.
Mr Lang points out that something is wrong with the Schapelle Corby circus train that rolled into Queensland overnight in that the star treatment the 39-year-old former Gold Coast beautician has received is woefully out of touch with reality.
Corby was in 2005 sentenced to 20 years jail for smuggling 4.1kg of marijuana into Denpasar Airport the previous year.
He pointedly says we need to remember she is a convicted felon and although she has served her time, we should not sugarcoat the realities.
He also indicates that the suggestion that her legacy will be to deter others from following the same foolish path also fails to stick when all we are seeing amounts to a heros welcome home.
Courier Mail columnist Kylie Lang emphasizes that we should not elevate her to the undeserving pedestal of an A-list celebrity as she navigates her new life in Australia.
