The Perthnow points out that McGowan won a landslide victory with a small agenda for change, and his challenge is to find a way to stimulate the economy under this circumstance.
Peter van Onselen, the Sunday TImes political analyst and a professor at UWA, points out that several factors such as the inability to get on top of rising debt, the loss of the AAA credit rating and the general effects of the post mining boom down turn affect the WA election result.
He also explains that the unpopularity of privatising Western Power and the negative media surrounding the deal with One Nation contributed to the Barnett governments historic election defeat.
Mr Onselen argues that McGowan had a big win to be sure, but with a small agenda for change and now he has the challenge of lifting WAs economic status under this circumstance.
