The SMH argues that the immunisation policy should focus on how to raise immunisation rates, but our effective policy development to raise immunisation rates has been impeded by Senator Hanson.
Immunisation plays an integral role in preventing infectious diseases and has saved approximately 2.5 million worldwide.
The SMH points out that immunisation is necessary to prevent diseases such as measles, mumps, whooping cough and many more, however Senator Hansons irresponsible comments may make parents who cast doubt on a result of the vaccination reluctant to have their children immunised.
The paper also criticizes that Senator Hanson may also have sown the seeds of doubt among parents beyond the usual 12 per cent or so who are initially hesitant about vaccinations.
Rather than rely on anti-vaxxer websites for information, the Herald urges all Australian families to have their children vaccinated.
It denounces Senator Hanson for making it more difficult to develop effective policy aimed at raising immunisation rates when the immunization policy should focus on how to raise immunisation rates.
