South Korean author Han Kang won Man Booker International Prize for fiction with the book Vegetarian translated by Deborah Smith. The book originally published in 2007 is about a woman who decided not to eat meat and how that leads her life unexpectedly.
The White book is based on the author’s residency in Poland in 2014. She explored the dark and icy streets of Warsaw and the fate of city which once destroyed during the Second World War and then rebuilt made her to think of her older sister who was born two months premature and only lived less than two hours.
The book dealt with her sister's death and life with image of white objects; swaddling blanket, salt, rice, bones, pills, hair, breast milk, fog etc.
The Sydney Morning Herald interviewed Han Kang over the phone and said Han is thoughtful and gently spoken.
