A deal with the US to take refugees held on Nauru and Manus Island may be in doubt as the US President Donald Trump plans to introduce tighter immigration policies.
President Donald Trump is expected to sign executive orders restricting immigration from certain-Muslim countries as part of his controversial election promises.
This may mean an agreement the Turnbull Government made with the Obama administration to resettle refugees from Nauru and Manus Island in the US may not go ahead.
Along with the restrictions, Mr Trump has ordered the building of a wall on the border with Mexico for tighter border security.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says the deal is not dead, and a strong bilateral relationship will sustain the arrangement.
