UNKNOWN NEIGHBOURS presented by Ranters Theatre and Creative VaQi as part of the Festival of Live Art (FOLA) is a site-specific work about 5 performers and their response to the environment surrounding a theatre.
“I was curious about the way people live in Australia” Kyung-Sung Lee who directed ‘Unknown Neighbours’ with Adriano Cortese says.
But he couldn’t look into the inside of house because the sun light in Australia is so strong and every house had blinds down.
“I am wondering about the space inside. How do people live in that place?”
Five performers from Melbourne and Seoul will break down the limitations of traditional theatre. It began inside local residences followed by a wander through the streets into the theatre at Theatre Works before ending on the esplanade overlooking the beach and the bay of St Kilda.
“We are going to move around in our daily spaces. It is a project to reinitialize the place where we live in”
Kyung-Sung believes that “we should experience the play” rather than “watch the play”
Kyung-Sung Lee talked about the ‘UNKNOWN NEIGHBOURS’, a collaboration between Ranters Theatre and Creative VaQi from South Korea and his interview with SBS Korean program is available on Podcast above.
Unknown Neighbours will be performed at the Theatre Works from 13 March to 18 March.
