Australian beef held the biggest market share in the South Korean imported beef market before but as a result of the lack of supply, the No 1 spot was taken over by the US competitor.

The Australian beef had been held the biggest market share in Korea for the last 12 years but the amount of beef exported from the United States to Korea exceeded that from Australia in November last year for the first time in 154 months.

The Korean Customs Service said the amount of beef shipped from the Australia to Korea was 10,310 tons while that from US was 13,921 tons.

Newsis said It is because of the decrease in the supply of Australian beef as result of a severe drought and increasing demands of the Australian beef from counties such as Middle East, Indonesia, China and so on.
