Visitor arrivals to Australia from Korea increased 32.4% in April 2016 comparing with April 2015. And visitor arrivals to Australia from China hit 1.12 million in the past 12 months, rising ten-fold since 2000, ABS figures show.
Visitors from South Korea
- When trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals for April 2015 and April 2016 were compared, the highest percentage increase was recorded for Japan (32.9%), followed by South Korea (32.4%), and Singapore (19.7%).
Visitors from China
- There were 100,900 visitors to Australia from China in April, an average of one every 26 seconds. That brought the total for the 12 months to 1.12 million, double the level reached in early 2012 and 10 times the number hit in mid-2000.
Australian residents heading abroad
- There were many more departures of Australian residents heading abroad - 799,500 in April and 9.58 million over the year. That gap narrowed in April, with arrivals up one per cent from March, and departures down three per cent.
