Doctors are warning women that having a baby over the age of 60 is risky business, after I-V-F helped a 62 year-old Tasmanian woman give birth.

On Monday (Aug 1), the unidentified Tasmanian gave birth in Melbourne via Caesarean section at 34 weeks.

It is believed she and her 78-year-old partner travelled overseas for I-V-F treatment.

That's irresponsible, says Australia's I-V-F pioneer, Professor Gab Kovacs from the Epworth Clinical Institute.

An obstetrician at Sydney's Westmead Hospital, Doctor Andrew Pesce, says the woman's age put her at greater risk.
