Australia's health workers say one of their biggest concerns is having inadequate equipment to protect themselves from coronavirus.

Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced the arrival of 30 million masks, with 10 million to be made available to workers over the coming days.

Large quantities of gowns, gloves and goggles have also been promised.

Emergency doctor Stephen Parnis told A-B-C's Q and A workers are struggling to find protective gear.

[["We're all very worried about the provision of personal protective equipment. I've seen department directors going to Bunnings, I've seen people look and hope they might have contacts overseas. Amd it's probably the number one concern for health workers around the country at the moment.']]

Shadow Minister for Health Chris Bowen says the safety of health workers should be a priority.

[["Not a day goes by when I don't get multiple calls from doctors and nurses about P-P-E. We should have the national objective of not one healthcare worker dying in Australia. Too many healthcare workers are dying overseas. I acknowledge the work of the government in very difficult circumstances, but that's got to be our number one aim."]]
