Deloitte's annual Media Consumer Survey has found that Australian young people are using social media for news consumption. Even though watching TV on any device is still preferred entertainment activity, the landscape is transforming fast.

Deloitte's 2016 Media Consumer Survey found that 31 per cent of trailing millennials (aged 14 to 26) and 25 per cent of millennials (aged 27 to 32) are using social media for their primary source of news.

The survey showed Facebook is the most commonly used social media in Australia. 92 per cent of respondents who use social media are actively using Facebook. But, young generations are not the most represented on Facebook. 96 per cent of boomers (aged 50 to 68) who are using social media are actively using Facebook while 88 per cent of trailing millennials who are using social media are actively using Facebook.
