10-year-old Indian origin girl dies in head-on collision in Melbourne

A 10-year-old Indian origin girl has died in a car crash that happened over midnight in Truganina in Melbourne. Three other members of the family are admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

The horror crash happened overnight when the Ford Focus car carrying four passengers collided with a Ford Territory.

The female driver of the car and a young boy are in critical condition. The male passenger is also admitted in the hospital with serious injuries. The 10-year-old girl died at the scene. The family hails from the state of Kerala in India.

''Police have been told a Ford Territory was travelling along Hopkins Road when it overtook a Honda SUV and collided head-on with a Ford Focus about midnight'', a Victoria Police statement said.

The driver of the Ford Territory, the only person who was in the car, was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ford Territory also collided with the Honda SUV. Five passengers traveling in Honda SUV were not injured.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
