16-year-old girls sexually assaulted: Police searching for man with 'Indian accent'

Police are in search of a man with Indian subcontinental appearance who sexually assaulted two teenage girls twice at Melbourne's Craigieburn. The man allegedly took selfies, sitting between the girls, before assaulting them.

According to Victoria Police, the incident occurred on January 2 between 11am-12pm when two 16 year old girls were sitting at a bus stop on Hothlyn Drive at the Craigieburn Railway Station.

A man believed to be in his 60s and is about 160cm tall with a slim build and heavy Indian accent sat between the girls and took a selfie with them on his phone.

He then assaulted one of the girls and left the scene.

The man again approached the same victims in Craigieburn Gardens on Craigieburn Road about 8.30pm on January 20. Police say that he then sexually assaulted both girls before fleeing.

Fawkner Sexual Offences and Children Abuse Investigation Team detectives have released a computer-generated image of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries.

Police say that on both occasions he was wearing a blue hat, dark-coloured top and khaki pants.

Police revealed last year that they were investigating whether someone in India helped organise the crime.

Anyone who has information about the incident or the man’s identity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
