Australia to abolish 457 visa; Australians to get priority, says Turnbull

The Australian federal government is in a move to abolish the 457 visa program that permits skilled foreign workers to work in the country.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has announced that the government will abolish the 457 visa program for temporary skilled migrants.


"The 457 visas will be replaced by a new temporary visa specifically designed to recruit the best and the brightest with tougher English language tests and activity requirements," says Turnbull in a video posted to Facebook on Tuesday.


"The fact remains Australian workers must have priority for Australian jobs," Turnbull added
