Leader of Opposition Bill Shorten has come out on Twitter supporting the southern Indian state of Kerala where more than 360 lives were lost in the worst flood in a century.
According to the Kerala authorities more than 700,000 are homeless and are staying in state-run rescue camps.
Mr. Shorten tweeted that "Australians send our support to those affected."
NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Ray Williams also has tweeted his support to the Malayalee community (migrants from Kerala).
"The situation in Kerala is critical", he wrote on Twitter.

NSW Labor leader Luke Foley also has come out in support of the community.
He has been talking to the Malayalee community in Sydney and the community leaders said that updated him about the current situation in Kerala.
"The scale of devastation is beyond belief for Australians. 80 dams have burst their walls, hundreds have perished and a quarter of a million people have been left homeless," Mr. Foley said in a statement.
"I stand with the Malayalee community in Sydney and the Kerala people and offer my deepest condolences for those who have lost loved ones."
