The Indian family in Adelaide recently received a letter from the Immigration department stating the refusal of their application for permanent residency. The department pointed out the rare neurological disorder of their three-year-old daughter Mary George as the reason for the visa refusal.  Manu George who works as a nurse in Adelaide arrived in Australia six years back with his wife Seena on student visas.

According to the government, allowing the three year old and her family to stay in the country permanently would be against public interest.

This news was carried by main stream media on Tuesday and people expressed their protest against this decision on social media and other avenues. The news of the rejection of permanent residency to the family also triggered the public to file a mass petition to the Immigration Minister.

Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Alex Hawke withdrew the visa refusal decision and granted the family with permanent residency on Wednesday, Manu George told SBS Malayalam.
