Indian travelers traveling overseas will not be required to fill up the departure cards at the airport. The immigration department has decided to end this procedure to lessen the formalities before traveling.

The change will come into effect on July 1.

Departure cards contain the details of the passenger such as name, address in India, date of birth, flight number, passport number and date of boarding. It is mandatory for every passenger to fill in the departure cards at the airport before boarding the aircraft.

Recently, The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has given away the practice of tagging and stamping of domestic passengers' hand baggage.

In 2014,  India put an end to the requirement of filling arrival cards.

Also, the customs department last year stopped the need for Indian passengers arriving in India to fill up the Indian customs declaration form unless they are carrying any prohibited or dutiable goods on board.
