Nethra Krishnamoorthy, mother of an eight month old baby is one among the injured when the car ran down the pedestrians killing five and injuring many.
She was returning to her office in city after breast feeding her eight month old baby at day care.
It was her first week at work at an IT company in Melbourne CBD after maternity leave.
She sustained serious injuries, which include deep lacerations to her head, a punctured lung, damage to her liver and kidneys, as well as broken ribs and fractures to her spine in three different places.
Nethra was rushed to hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for several hours. She is currently in Intensive Care, in a critical but stable condition.
As Nethra who is from Mysore does not have any other relatives in Australia, the baby is currently under the care of a work colleague, and some family friends. Her husband is by her bedside every day taking care of this young mother.
Nethra who was injured critically will remain in hospital for some time.
