Sam Abraham, a person of Indian origin was found dead in his Melbourne home in October 2015.

Last August, Victoria Police charged Sam's wife Sofia Sam and her male friend Arun Kamalasanan with murder for allegedly poisoning him to death.

When the case came up in court today, Sofia and Arun attended the proceedings via video link.

A visibly distressed Sofia was seen wiping off her tears very often and replied with broken voice when talking to the court.

Arun Kamalasanan looked calm while attending the proceedings.

The court was told that more than 6,000 conversations between the accused have been accessed by the investigators spanning over 100 hours. As the conversations were all in Malayalam language, the prosecution sought more time to translate them.

However the court observed that the accused has been in remand for many months now, and the case could not be dragged out for too long.

It was also mentioned that evidence from covert operations by the investigators and from the 37 'simulated scenarios' carried out by the detectives be submitted.

After hearing both sides, the court asked the prosecution lawyer to hand over translated versions of the conversations and other "crucial evidence" to the opposite parties within four weeks.

The case has been posted for committal hearing from 26 June to 28 June, with an interim mention on March 28. The remand of the accused was also extended to that date.
