The accused are charged with the fatal poisoning of Sofia's husband Sam Abraham with cyanide at their Epping home in October 2015. Mr. Kamalasanan is also facing another charge of attempted murder, which happened three months before Sam was found dead.

In a directions hearing today morning, the court has decided to set the trial to start on November 8.

Court has also ordered the prosecution to present the complete evidences by 16th of August. After which, a pre-trial  directions hearing will be held at the Supreme Court on 31st of October.

During the two-day long hearing, Melbourne Magistrate's Court had examined a number of the prosecution witnesses including covert operatives who were involved in the investigation of the case, doctors, toxicologists, police constables and a house mate of Mr. Kamalasanan.

According to the toxicology report submitted to the court, high level of cyanide was found in Sam's blood and liver. A dose of sedative drug, clonazepam was also found in his system.

The toxicologist told the court that as the level of cyanide was high in the body of the deceased, it was likely to have been ingested rather than being inhaled.

A purple cup with orange juice was found by the police at the crime scene. A photograph of this was presented to the court. However, police didn’t seize any objects from the scene.

They also confirmed that there were no signs of a break-in or no external injuries were noticed on Sam’s body.

Kamalasanan’s former housemate also gave evidence in the court saying he met Sofia along with Kamalasanan at their St Kilda flat a few days after Kamalasanan arrived in Australia.

Mr. Kamalasanan has also been charged with attempting to murder Sam inside his car at the Lalor train station car park on 30th of July 2015, three months before Sam was found dead. Sam who escaped murder on that day, handed over a black balaclava to the police which he got from the attacker.

Police would later match Mr.Kamalasanan's DNA to it.

The judicial remand of the accused have been extended .
