Stabbing of Indian origin priest: 72-year-old man arrested

Victorian police have arrested a 72-year-old man in connection with the alleged stabbing of an Indian origin priest at the Fawkner church in Melbourne. He will be presented before the Court in June, police informed.

Fr. Tomy Kalathoor Mathew (48) was allegedly stabbed on Sunday morning in the premises of the St Matthew's Parish at Fawkner in Melbourne.

The police was in search of the offender who was on the run after the incident.

"A 72-year-old man has been arrested following an alleged stabbing in Fawkner on Sunday night. He has been charged with intentionally and recklessly cause injury," says police.

"He was bailed to appear in Broad meadows Magistrates’ Court on 13 June", Victoria Police told SBS Malayalam.
