Taxi driver falls asleep; ploughs car into a Melbourne home

A taxi driver -reportedly of Indian origin has ploughed his car into a Pakenham home in Melbourne's south-east on Sunday morning, after falling asleep. According to reports, the house sustained extensive damage and no one was injured in the accident.

It was on Sunday morning 5am that John, an Indian origin taxi driver smashed his car into a sleeping couple's bedroom causing massive damage to the building. Luckily the couple Ica and Gabriel Magda who had their shock of their life narrowly escaped unhurt.

John's sister Karam Walia told Herald Sun that her 24-year-old brother a full time IT student drives taxi once a week as part time. After 12 hour long shift John fell asleep just for microseconds while driving his taxi, before smashing on to the Pakenham home.  

“He’s very upset, he’s usually a very good driver," says Karam.

Media reports say, the house sustained extensive damage following the crash. SES crews were called to assist with makeshift repairs and putting up a black tarpaulin to protect the bedroom from the extreme weather.

There are also reports that letterbox of the neighbouring property was also damaged.

No one was injured in the accident, reports say.

Police said that they have commenced the investigation and factors such as alcohol, drugs, speed would be looked into.
