Stigma associated with AIDS; the main challenge to overcome

As part of World AIDS Day, on December 1 world over numerous programmes were held aimed at improving awareness about AIDS. Though the number of deaths from AIDS and AIDS-related illnesses have reduced compared to the past, more needs to be done to increase awareness about AIDS and the health services available to assist AIDS patients. Recent studies show that stigma associated with AIDS is a matter of concern that needs to be addressed. Dr Titus Thomas, GP in Melbourne, explains.
