Three batches of strawberry and orange flavoured Panadol, supplied in 200ml bottles for children aged between 5 to 12 years, have been recalled from pharmacies and wholesalers. The Health Department, in consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration have recalled multiple batches of Panadol following the reports that they have been contaminated with invisible fibres that could prompt allergic reactions to the kids.
The TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration ) advised that the recalled batches of Panadol have an expiry date of February 2018. The batch number and expiry date can be seen at the bottom of the bottle label and on the base of the packaging. The affected batch numbers are 136418, 136444 and 136443.
In its notice, the TGA said, "It has been identified that an ingredient used in the manufacture of these medicines may have been contaminated with small particles that could contain trace minerals and inert fibres. The quantity of these particles would be small and they may not be visible in the product. There is a very low risk of allergic reaction and if it occurs, there is also potential for the medicine to be less effective over time."
The TGA has also advised that the consumers who purchased the affected product could return then to the place of purchase to get a refund.
TGA also confirmed that this has not affected any other batches, bottle sizes or products.
Anyone with concerns has been urged to phone call GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Australia on 1800 028 533.
